GHD, See the Light

MPC has just completed ghd’s latest spot ‘See the light,’ which was directed by David Edwards and produced by Swifty Hanrahan at HANraHAN for TBWA Manchester. The 60 second film shows us glamorous women doing what they want in a series of stunning surroundings.

With beautiful locations and empowered women, ‘See the light’ explores a wide range textures and light effects using a hand-cranked camera to compliment the dark atmosphere. Flame was used to blend and layer these effects into the film and lens flares were added between the different scenes. To create depth and mystery mist and smoke were added to some shots. Long exposure stills were shot by the DOP and then composited and blended together for the opening shot. The glows of the lights were enhanced to bring the scene to life. General beauty work was also carried out.

MPC’s George K colour graded the spot which was shot using 35mm prime lenses. With a mixture of exterior, interior and evening scenarios, subtle contrast levels we used to unify this beautifully shot piece whilst maintaining an almost monochromatic tone throughout. ‘Working with such beautifully shot material is always inspiring and it enables you to create a strong look for the film - explains George K - With many scenes shot in low light scenarios it was a challenge not to loose too much detail, after all our main actor was the hair.

It’s great when a job exceeds my expectations especially when they’re high in the first place. Everyone at MPC who worked on the project really did help to achieve this’ commented director David Edwards. There are 30 and 60 second versions of the commercial which is on air from November 17th in UK and Australia.
