MPC Academy FAQ


What do I need to apply?

You need a demo reel that demonstrates your skill in a focused area. For the MPC Academy, that should be in one of the following areas: compositing, lighting, FX, Animation or 3D digital matte painting. Check out this page for advice on reels.

Is there a way to track application status?

A recruiter will review your application, then an MPC hiring manager will assess your showreel and related background and decide if you'll be interviewed. We try to reply to applicants quickly. Feel free to email the recruiter for a quick status update.

How do I graduate from the Academy?

You'll need a strong desire to learn,and a strong work ethic as the programs cover many skills in just 12 weeks. We'll teach you to apply your craft in a busy production studio and you'll need to meet targets for quality and technical understanding while meeting deadlines. You'll need to demonstrate professional conduct and adopt the soft skills we teach. We'll assess you daily and weekly, and meet with you regularly to discuss your progress in friendly, informal meetings.

After my interview, how long will it be before I receive feedback?

We aim to respond to you within a week of your interview.

How much will I get paid?

We offer a standard junior salary for the Academy. Details are usually discussed after the interview stage.

Do you have an animation academy?

Yes, though less often than our other Academies. Call us, or check our website for updates. 

What happens after the first 12 months of my contract with MPC?

If you’ve performed to the expected standards in production and we have positions available you’ll be offered a new contract.

What is the best way to apply?

As we only review applications online, you can apply directly here. If the current academy is full, we will consider your application for the next round, as we run three academies a year.


How do I stand out from others?

The most important thing is the quality of your demo reel. It should focus on the area you are applying for and show an understanding of the work we do in that department.

If you are offered an interview, you’ll want to show professionalism and be articulate. Be prepared to answer why you chose to do the pieces you did and how you did it in detail. We will want to understand your thought process and hear about your problem solving skills.

Can I apply to more than one Academy?

Yes, but you must show separate reels specific to each specialization you apply for. 

If I applied in the past but didn’t make it - can I apply again?

Absolutely, but you must submit an updated reel. We'll need to see that you've developed your skills since your previous application. 
We love to see new talent developing, so please do apply again. 

I’m not a Canadian or a Canadian permanent resident, can I apply for the Academy in Canada?

If you have your own work permit, then yes. If you do not have your own work permit, depending on your country of citizenship, we may be able to help you apply for a permit.  We take this case-by-case, you can get in touch with the Academy recruiter and they will be able to take a look at your info and determine whether or not we can sponsor you.
